State Closes Registration Muskox Hunt RX099 for Cow Muskox in Unit 22D, Kuzitrin River Drainage.
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game will close the winter State Registration muskox hunt RX099 for cow muskox in the Kuzitrin River Drainage in Unit 22(D) at 11:59 p.m. January 13, 2011. The registration hunt for bull muskox in the Kuzitrin River Drainage in Unit 22(D) and hunting by registration permit RX099 in Unit 22(C) and Unit 22(D) Southwest remain open at this time.
The Alaska Board of Game established a Tier I subsistence registration muskox hunt in the Kuzitrin River Drainage in Unit 22(D). The department set an overall 6% harvest rate for muskox in this area with a 2% harvest rate for cow muskox. The harvest rates allow a quota of 17 muskox (up to 6 cows) based on the 2010 population estimate of 285 muskox. Six cow muskox have been harvested and no further cow harvest is warranted at this time.
All other muskox hunting regulations in Unit 22 remain unchanged by this emergency order.
